The competition in the office market in Manchester and Liverpool could hotten up even more with the news that there is to be a new £100 million investment in the train network between each city.  The current journey time of 54 minutes minutes will be shortened to just 30.  This will be a massive boost to the economy in the North West and will help the two cities enormously. It will make it easier for people to commute between the areas, allowing people to live and work in opposite cities and still be able to travel with greater ease, comfort and speed.

One consequence of the new trains is that the price of office space could be driven up in Liverpool or conversely driven down in Manchester.  Hopefully it will not drive down prices but instead increase the attractiveness of both cities as real alternatives to London.  With so many great schemes in both cities, and with more planed for the future, this new initiative will surely be of huge benefit to both cities.

  1. Rail links have been debated / promised / proposed for decades now in my area of the US, but it’s never happened. I don’t think it ever will, but it would be great to be able to hop a train and be in downtown Cincinnati in no time, without having to drive myself. I’m sure it would be a boost to the economy, but probably nothing like the upgrades for Manchester and Liverpool.
